The California Bat Working Group mission is to facilitate communication regarding bat ecology, distribution, and research techniques, and provide a forum to discuss conservation and management strategies, provide technical assistance, and encourage education.

On July 25, 2017, the California State Senate made a resolution to recognize the importance of the pallid bat. On February 17, 2023, the State Bat Bill, SB 732, was introduced! Thanks to efforts from many parties in 2023, the Bill passed and became law in 2024, establishing a state bat for California, the pallid bat (Antrozous pallidus).
